About
THE NEW CONTEXT CONFERENCE (NCC) has been hosted by Kaoru Hayashi and Joichi Ito, co-founders of Digital Garage, since 2005. The conference brings together individuals interested in exploring cutting-edge internet technologies and the businesses that emerge around them. With a focus on the new contexts that contribute to the development of society, the conference aims to explore how digital technologies can be used to design a society based on global values such as equality, diversity, reflection, and sustainability. The event features speakers and participants who discuss and share their insights on these topics.

From its inception, AI has oscillated between periods of immense optimism and challenging skepticism. In the 2010s, with the surge in computational power and the influx of datasets, AI models such as Deep Learning achieved significant milestones in tasks like image and speech recognition. Today, with the recent popularity of LLMs such as ChatGPT, developments in AI are resulting in numerous practical advancements, even when the pursuit of truly transformative AI systems remains elusive.
It's critical to maintain an open-minded perspective on the future of AI. Historical trajectories suggest we're still in the early phases of AI, with the pendulum continually oscillating between varied methodologies. As challenges become more pronounced and intertwined with our daily lives and societal contexts, technologists will persist in seeking solutions. Even now, the wide adoption of Generative AI is resulting in issues related to the ownership of training data, biases, copyrighted output, and hallucinations. Consequently, prevailing approaches to AI will keep evolving too. It is necessary for us to imagine a future where AI systems are both intuitive and logical, skilled at absorbing vast datasets while being able to explain their decisions.
Join us at the 26th edition NCC San Francisco 2023 Fall on November 17, where we come together to explore the theme, "Building Useful and Trustworthy AI." We've gathered a roster of experts ready to discuss the intricacies of crafting AI systems that find the balance between being implementable and trustworthy. Through insights from real-world applications in marketing and the creative sectors, we'll put together the current discussions in the historical development of AI forging a deeper comprehension of the evolving landscape of Generative AI. Together, let's envision a future where AI isn't just powerful, but is also discerning and transparent in its workings.

Session 01
Trusted AI and Regulation
The recent rapid advancement of AI has led to societal progress on a global scale. However, this has also raised numerous challenges, including issues related to rights over training data, copyright of generative products, bias, and hallucination. In this session, we will present examples of policy proposals from the US and Japan as both countries attempt to address these issues. The construction of effective regulation is pivotal in shaping a future where AI benefits all while safeguarding against potential risks.
